Wireless Rapid Bet Live Gets Nevada Approval
Progressive Gaming International Corporation's hand held device for on-property remote betting on Nevada licensed premises has received Nevada Gaming Control Board approval following extensive field tests at the Palms Hotel and Casino .
Formerly titled Mikohn Corporation, Progressive Gaming International is competing for a slice of the lucrative Nevada land casino market for remote betting, hand held devices that can be used within land casino properties. Other competitors are Cantor Gaming and Diamond Inc.
PGI's wireless product is branded Rapid Bet Live, a proven, compact device that enables patrons to place live, real time-time wagers on professional and collegiate basketball, hockey, football, baseball and other sporting events. The company will now go ahead with further field testing on the wireless edition of the product, again at the Palms.
The Nevada Gaming Commission approved the use of wireless gaming devices in Nevada on March 23, 2006, becoming the first state in the USA to allow mobile wireless gaming in public areas of land casinos.
“We believe the key business model objective of RBL was validated during the field trial which was to increase the volume of wagers and hold from traditional sports book levels,” said Robert Parente, Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing.
The name of the game has changed for Progressive Gaming International. The company still manufactures a variety of slot machines and video games for casinos, including Caribbean Stud, Progressive Blackjack, and Texas Hold'Em Bonus, as well as licensed games such as KISS and Garfield. But the company sold its indoor signage division, previously representing more than half of sales, to focus on interactive gaming and casino management software.
According to Hoovers, Progressive Gaming International has laid off 23 percent of its staff and positioned itself as a technology and content provider for the gaming industry. The company purchased gaming software company VirtGame in October 2005.
